Festivals and Events

The Coastal Gateway EDA’s five-county region is home to numerous family-friendly events throughout the year. Individuals relocating to the area will find fun activities for the whole family.

Saturdays on the Square

Saturdays on the Square in Monroeville have been called a “wonderland” of fine arts, crafts, quilting, workworking, soul food, and more. The event runs from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and features a fashion show, gospel music, and ethnic dance performances.

Alabama River Festival

A celebration of the Creek/Seminole tribes and their traditions, this festival is complete with an 1812 frontier camp, river music and culture, at the only river museum located on the Alabama River. Featuring music, visits with Indians and frontiersmen, demonstrations, and food. Located at Claiborne Lock & Dam, 31 Issac Creek Road, Franklin. To Kill A Mockingbird Production

The Mockingbird Players produce an annual production of “To Kill A Mockingbird,” sponsored by Monroe County Heritage Museum.The production is considered Monroeville’s signature event, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2015. Alabama Blueberry Festival

This annual event has been a family-favorite since 1980. Featuring original arts and crafts, an antique/classic car show, live, all-day entertainment, fresh blueberries and blueberry bushes for sale, and delicious food, you don’t want to miss this event. Visit the website for more details.

Choctaw County Heritage Festival

Held in May in Gilbertown, and hosted by the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce, this family-friendly event features antique cars, arts, crafts, vendors, gospel singing and concerts, Wednesday night through Saturday night.

Jackson Fall Festival

A must-attend event for families since 1981, the Jackson Fall Festival has a kids’ game area, delicious foods, a market in the street, a 5K run/walk, entertainment, an antique auto show, and lumberjack competition. Make your plans to join us this November!

Castleberry Strawberry Festival

Held the third Saturday in April every year in downtown Castleberry, the Strawberry festival is a full day of arts, crafts, entertainment, and of course, plenty of fresh strawberries. Call 251-966-2422 for more information.

Evergreen Sausage Festival

Held each October in Downtown Evergreen, (Oct. 18th this year), the Sausage Festival is a great event for children and adults of all ages, during which homage and adoration for locally-made Conecuh Sausage is exhibited. There is also live entertainment, arts and crafts, children’s activities, and other delicious food options. For more information, call 251-578-1707.

Southeast Regional Fly-In (SERFI)

This is held at Middleton Field Airport in Evergreen, annually the fourth Saturday in October. Attendees can see hundreds of aircraft from all over the Southeast, participate in seminars, attend an awards banquet, visit vendor booths, and more. Visit for more information.

Butler Fest

The last weekend of October, Butler's Downtown comes alive with activity. Memphis in May sanctioned barbecue competitors roll in for a chance at a coveted wooden pig and a trip to the championship in Memphis. You are sure to find a unique gift at one of our local boutiques during their extended hours or on Courthouse Square where over 75 set up shop. A carnival provides unlimited fun for the children. Friday night boasts a street dance with bands while Saturday is Gospel Night. Our annual 5K, 2 Mile Walk, and Children's Fun Run takes place early Saturday morning before local entertainment kicks off at the Grand Stand. Other activities include a car and bike show, a bass tournament, a talent show, and beauty pageants.
